A daily journal of the running I do with my dog Chico. We frequently run the Steamboat Ditch Trail in Reno, Nevada. Chico helps me prepare for everything from 5Ks to Marathons. Chico is this man's best running friend.

Under the weather...

Despite the threat of more severe weather, Manuel, Chico and I decided to get a short trail run in. It appears that we just got it in under the weather. Today has been mostly rainy with flood warnings throughout the area.
We ran yesterday for 4 1/2 miles along the ditch trail, from Horseman's Park to the cul-de-sac and back. The rain was light and actually quite pleasant. The wind was less comforting, but not at all severe. Following our run, Manuel and I enjoyed lunch at the Sushi Club. The salmon is some of the best I've ever tasted. We will begin our marathon training schedule on January 15th and it will culminate with the running of the Marathon De Mayo in Reno on May 7th. It will be Manuel's first marathon and my fourth. Enjoy the miles!

Resolutions to consider...

I am determined to run smarter and more economically in 2006. I don't need to enter as many events and my runs can be just as rewarding if I monitor my miles and don't try to push too hard. I will run two marathons in 2006! The Marathon De Mayo on May 7th will be great as it takes place in Reno and Mom and Dad will get a chance to see me run. I am going to return to the Bizz Johnson in 2006 and would like to run it a little stronger. Time on the SDT will make all of this happen. The running crew is as strong as ever and I will try to keep Jeff motivated long distance.
Enjoy the miles!

Christmas Eve on the trail...

Prior to taking Dan to the airport, we got a nice 4.5 mile run in on the trail. Manuel, Warren w/Maggie and Trooper, Dan and I w/Chico took to the trail for a nice easy run. We chatted about everything from animals to weather and had a great time.
Enjoy the miles!

Enjoying the miles...

Dan, Chico and I ran seven miles on th trail today. It was a really nice day, overcast and not too cold, for a run. Dan had never run that far and really enjoyed it. He will be running even farther before too long. Chico had a fantastic time, which is to be expected. Miles of smiles!

sharing the love...

I hope the kids enjoy running as much as I do! Enjoy the miles!

My legacy...

Allison and me running the Apple Hill Harvest Run

I hope to pass on to my children the joy of running. Enjoy the miles!

off my butt and on the trail...

Yesterday, we (Chico, Dan, Manuel, Michael and I) went for a trail run. Michael rode his bicycle while we ran. We went 4.5 miles at a real easy pace. Chico was over the moon about being back on the trail and I felt pretty good too. Dan is a newbie, but I think he likes the idea of being a runner and will be joining us for future runs. Michael took a couple of spills, but did very well riding the entire distance. We were going to run today, but have opted to postpone that. I will try to take Chico out this afternoon. I am getting ready to register for the 2006 races; Bidwell 1/2, Marathon de Mayo (26.2), Bay to Breakers 12K and Bizz Johnson (26.2). Long may I run. Enjoy the miles!

Down time...

I have been running less and I know it's hard on Chico. He wants to run and play and be a dog and I need time for my body to recuperate after a year of running. We will find a balance. The trail calls us. I think I will train for and run two marathons in 2006 - the Marathon de Mayo on May 7th in Reno and I want to run the Bizz again. Enjoy the miles!
