A daily journal of the running I do with my dog Chico. We frequently run the Steamboat Ditch Trail in Reno, Nevada. Chico helps me prepare for everything from 5Ks to Marathons. Chico is this man's best running friend.

New fitness club...

We recently joined a new gym, as we wait for our Gold's Gym to be constructed. Gold's was to have opened last October, but construction and permit delays abound and it is still not completed. So we have joined Saint Mary's Center for Health and Fitness. It is a beautiful facility. Three floors with swimming, cardio and classes are available. The kids club is big and there are plenty of things for them to do. We took Dan as a guest yesterday, and he and I ran three miles on the indoor track. I struggled with the monotony, but got through it. I also lifted weights, did some cardio on the eliptical machine and swam. It was quite fulfilling. I think the cross training will help as I prepare for the Marathon de Mayo (May 7th). Enjoy the miles!

Running in a winter wonderland...

With a fresh blanket of snow on the trail, Dan and I took Chico on an eight mile run. We ran from the west side of the paver driveway to the fenceline in Caughlin and back. We then ran the horseshoe to get a little more distance. It was cold and snowy, but very peaceful. The birds were chirping in their trees and dogs barked as we passed their yards, but aside from when we went through the McCarran underpass it was very quiet. It was like running on pillows. A great run! Enjoy the miles!

easing into February...

We have not run as many miles so far this month as last month. Minor injuries and busy schedules - but we got in 10 miles today and will run again tomorrow, so I am certain we will continue making headway on our marathon preparation. Enjoy the miles!

January's total...

Total miles for the monthof January = 101!!
This was my greatest mileage total to date and lets me know that I can run well for many miles if I eat and train smart. Enjoy the miles!

cross training...

Dan and I took Chico to the trail for a bike ride yesterday. We rode the Steamboat Ditch Trail fro Horseman's Park to the Caughlin Ranch fenceline and back. The trail is still in a state of disrepair, and it was slow going in parts. We managed to get a pretty good ride and Chico thoroughly enjoyed the time on the trail. I need to return to running this week and solidify my mileage base for the Marathon de Mayo which is now thirteen weeks away. Enjoy the miles!
