A daily journal of the running I do with my dog Chico. We frequently run the Steamboat Ditch Trail in Reno, Nevada. Chico helps me prepare for everything from 5Ks to Marathons. Chico is this man's best running friend.

Some time away...

I have spent some time away from the blog. During which I have continued to run and have completed marathon number five (Bizz Johnson trail marathon - 2nd time). With some help from my buddy Warren, I was able to run the last six point two with hime and the dogs, which was really great. I was pretty wrecked thos last six miles, so it was quite uplifting to share them with Chico, Sienna and my good friend .
I have also started teaching at my new school, Dilworth, which is terrific. I continue to add miles to the yearly total and would really like to get to that elusive 1000 mile mark before the year is out. I am at 808 miles year-to-date with today's miles and will have to run about 90 miles in both November and December in order to get there. It can and will be done!
Enjoy the miles! -Michael

What a month!

July turned out to be a great month of running. I logged 115 plus miles, the most I have ever run in a month, and I feel great. I am injury-free and feeling strong. I even completed a 19-mile run on the last Sunday, which felt terrific. Warren started it out with me and then peeled off at about six miles. Chico was my running companion throughout and he was as frisky as could be by the next morning. I am feeling good about running the Bizz again this year and would like to finish between four and four and half hours. Enjoy the miles!

July running

The month of July got here in a hurry. In June I ran 79 miles and need 525 miles to hit the 1000 mile mark for the year. I have done the math and it will take an average of 87.5 miles per month to hit the millennium mark. This is certainly attainable, but I must not let another month like March (38.7 miles) happen.
The dogs are trail running fiends. They simply can't get enough. Sienna has become quite the trail hound and has earned the title of "trail Pom." She always turns heads and elicits comments from the other runners. Today we ran 10 miles - paver to creek and back, twice. The second time we ran it with Dan, Warren and his dogs.
I will run as part of the Coyotes in next weekend's Reno Tahoe Odyssey. My mileage total is listed as 12.2, with two of the three legs listed as "most difficult." Last year, the innaugural, was great and I expect this year to be terrific as well.

The running months are upon me!

Summer into fall is the key time to run and the best way to stay motivated, as my friend Nick would always say, is to "put something out in front." So, my carrot is the Bizz Johnson Trail Marathon on October 8th. I will run the Bizz again this year, last year was my first go at it, and I would like to i8mprove on last year's 4:43. Regardless of the time, I will have a great run. My friend Dan will very likely join me, as he did for the inaugural Marathon De Mayo in Reno. Enjoy the miles!

still running, just not bloggin'

We, Dan and I, ran the Marathon de Mayo on the seventh of May and finished in a respectable 5:41. We would have finished a bit earlier, but Dan had a case of the squirts from mile sixteen on and it was everything he could do to keep liquids down. I am really proud of him for hanging in there and finishing. A lesser person would have quit. So...marathon number four is in the books and Dan has done his first. Pretty cool!

Haven't blogged in a while...

Although I haven't blogged in a while, I am getting my runs in at the trail. Yesterday, Chico, Sienna, Nick, Dan, Manuel and I all went for a short run at the trail. We got a chance to talk and discuss some of the issues we all face on a daily basis. It was real nice to get the mileage and visit. I will have to run long at least once in the next few days in order to adequately prepare for the Marathon de Mayo.

Managed to get a run in...

The toughest step is the first one out the door!
Man those words were true today. I really had to kick myself in the butt to get out to the trail today, but I did it! Chico and I ran four tough miles through the mud and slop. Chico was as happy as could be and I was trudging. But who cares? I ran! And today that's something worth feeling good about. Enjoy the miles!

backblogged...

It has been a month since my last blog, and it feels like longer than that. I have maintained my running, although recently i have cut back to allow for my calves to heal. I have to pick it back up if I have any hope of being ready to run the Marathon de Mayo. To date, I have run 40 miles this month and that is not enough. Enjoy the miles.
